The Swann family required a home that would meet the needs of their daughter, who has cerebral palsy. Steven Docker Associates (SDA) designed and project-managed the adaptation of a period property of specific local interest, which now features a hydrotherapy pool, through-floor lift, accommodation for carers and other vital facilities.
The project began with a consultation at the client’s previous home. Having established the suitability of the property, scheme designs were prepared and planning permission was obtained from the local authority. SDA guided the project through to completion, helping the family to obtain competitive tenders and choose a building contractor, before also supervising the works on site.
The design has extended the home on three sides, creating around twice as much floor space. New amenities include a dedicated therapy room, a hydrotherapy pool with shower facilities, carer accommodation, an adapted en-suite ‘wet room’ bathroom, a lift, and a new dining kitchen with utility room.
