Following their purchase of a bungalow with the potential to meet the accessibility and therapy needs of their son Jordan, who has cerebral palsy, the family’s next step was to extend and adapt the property.
Having been instructed by Jordan’s Deputy to assess the suitability of the property the family selected Steven Docker Associates to design and manage the project and we quickly got to work, consulting with them and other experts to ensure their needs were fully met.
Our design included a self-contained extension for Jordan, with a specially equipped bedroom, en-suite bathroom, therapy room and utility room, as well as an adjacent carer’s bedroom and office/sitting room. The existing living space was also refurbished and adapted, now featuring ceiling hoists, assistive technology and a new home security system. Outside, we made the large garden more accessible and fun, with level paths and a landscaped outdoor therapy and play area.
SDA’s management of the project included using a tender process to select a quality building contractor and deliver value for money. We also stayed in close contact with the family and the contractor throughout, ensuring smooth progress towards a timely completion.
